Welcome to the Giizhigaanang DayStar Community Centre!
News Flash!
We are thrilled to announce that the Wikwemikong Band Council has just
renewed the lease on the DayStar Community Center for another 20-years.
We are enormously grateful to the Chief and Elders for their continued and
unwavering support of the work of DayStar Native Outreach.
The DayStar Community Centre is located in the very heart of Wikwemikong.
Originally the building served as the Band Council offices. In 1992 the Council
leased the space to DayStar for a nominal amount. In the past ten years many
volunteers from Canada and the USA have transformed the interior and exterior
of the building to what you see today.
On the lower level you will find the Children's Activity Centre (complete with its
own brightly painted Volkswagen Beetle), the Cafeteria with a kitchen and
storeage area, and the washrooms.
On the upper level is the DayStar office and reception, a beutifully furnished
lounge/Sunday School room, the Fellowship auditorium and the clothing bank.
Outside is a large yard for the children to run around and play supervised games.
In the summer months there are organized programs for children each weekday
(from 10:00 am to noon). During the school year drop-in is from 3:00pm to
5:00pm.
Above and below are photos of the children participating in Creation Club, the
5-week summer program organized by volunteers Matt and Tamara Smith.
